Hunter Douglas Guidelines

Do

Replacing Batteries

Follow these simple steps to replace the batteries in your shade and remote, or watch our installer walk you through the process.

  • Step 1

To change the batteries in a Hunter Douglas shade, start by locating the battery wand, which is typically mounted behind the headrail of the shade. Carefully detach the wand from its mount, and open the battery compartment by removing the endcap cover.

  • Step 2

Remove the old batteries, taking note of their orientation. Insert new batteries in the correct direction, as indicated inside the wand (AA alkaline batteries are recommended).

  • Step 3

Once the new batteries are in place, replace the cover and secure the wand back onto its mount.

  • Step 4

Finally, test the shade by using the remote or control system to ensure it operates smoothly with the fresh batteries. Regular battery replacement ensures reliable performance, so consider setting a reminder to check the batteries periodically.

Recharging Batteries

  • Step 1

To recharge a Hunter Douglas rechargeable battery for motorized window treatments, start by locating the battery pack, typically found mounted behind the headrail of the shade. If needed, unplug the battery wand from the motor; some models require removing the battery, while others allow you to leave it in place.

  • Step 2

Next, connect the charging cable to the battery wand’s charging port and plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet. Charging generally takes about 2-3 hours, and you may notice an LED indicator light that changes colors to signal the charging status.

  • Step 3

Once the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger and reconnect the battery to the motor if it was detached.

  • Step 4

Finally, test the shades with the remote or control system to ensure they respond properly and have full power. To prolong battery life, recharge the battery when you notice reduced performance or receive a low battery alert, as regular charging before full depletion can help maintain its longevity.

Resetting Shades

If other items interfere with the shade’s communication, or a loss of power occurs in the home, you may need to perform a reset. Hold the button on the shade’s headrail for 6 seconds. The shade will jog indicating the reset has taken place. Be careful not to hold it longer than 6 seconds, or you could wipe out the memory of the shade. Watch our installer demonstrate how to reset your shades.
