Product Care for Custom Window Treatments
Caring for Your Treatments
Your new custom treatments are the finest quality available. Keep them looking fresh and new with these product care suggestions and guidelines.
Hunter Douglas Guidelines
Do
- A light dusting with a feather duster should be the only cleaning needed.
- You can use a hand-held vacuum with low suction, compressed air, or a hair dryer on a cool setting. This will help remove any dust and dirt that has built up.
Replacing Batteries
Follow these simple steps to replace the batteries in your shade and remote, or watch our installer walk you through the process.
-
Step 1
To change the batteries in a Hunter Douglas shade, first find the battery wand. You usually find it behind the headrail of the shade. Carefully detach the wand from its mount, and open the battery compartment by removing the endcap cover.
-
Step 2
Remove the old batteries, taking note of their orientation. Insert new batteries in the correct direction, as the wand indicates (use AA alkaline batteries).
-
Step 3
Once the new batteries are in place, replace the cover and secure the wand back onto its mount.
-
Step 4
Finally, test the custom shade. Use the remote or control system to make sure it works well with the new batteries. Regular battery replacement ensures reliable performance, so consider setting a reminder to check the batteries periodically.
Recharging Batteries
-
Step 1
To recharge a Hunter Douglas battery for motorized custom window treatments, first find the battery pack. It is usually located behind the headrail of the shade. If needed, unplug the battery wand from the motor. Some models need you to remove the battery. Others let you leave it in place.
-
Step 2
Next, plug the charging cable into the battery wand’s charging port. Then, connect the other end to a standard electrical outlet. Charging usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. You might see an LED light that changes colors to show the charging status.
-
Step 3
Once the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger and reconnect the battery to the motor if it is detached.
-
Step 4
Finally, test the shades with the remote or control system to ensure they respond properly and have full power. To extend battery life, charge the battery when you see reduced performance or get a low battery alert. Regular charging before it runs out can help it last longer.
Resetting Shades
If other items block the shade’s communication or if the power goes out, you may need to reset it. Hold the button on the shade’s headrail for 6 seconds.
The shade will jog indicating the reset has taken place. Be careful not to hold it longer than 6 seconds, or you could wipe out the memory of the shade. Watch our installer demonstrate how to reset your shades.
